Administration and logistics

Service to one's country is both an obligation and an opportunity for personal and professional growth. As a Greek citizen in 2012, I saw it as a chance to turn my obligation into something more. So, I took the exams, underwent a rigorous selection process, and emerged as an officer in the tank warfare branch.

For four months, I underwent intense training, learning the skills needed to become an effective leader. The training was challenging, pushing me to maintain order, focus, and creativity even under the most challenging circumstances. I emerged from this training with strong bonds with my peers and valuable lessons in leadership, problem-solving, and resource management.

As part of my service, I was assigned to a military camp near the border. There I became responsible for the operation of weapon warehouses for my platoon, training of soldiers, and management of personnel/supplies. I also dealt with non-military tasks on a daily basis and acted as a representative at ceremonies. It was during this time that I learned to lead by example, inspiring my team to overcome unexpected challenges and achieve their objectives.

Except the technical knowledge, this experience taught me that the most effective leaders are those who prioritize their people above all else. It's not enough to simply give orders and be a transactional leader. Teams need to be inspired as to find creative solutions to unexpected problems.

After 13 months as an officer I felt equipped with unique experiences that have helped me become a better manager and leader in all aspects of my life. It was a moment that taught me the value of teamwork in extreme conditions, adaptiveness, and commitment.
